                                 NORWESTERS ALPINE CLUB

“Ski racing for the FUN of it”

The juvenile racing programs at Loch Lomond Ski Area are organized and run by the Norewesters Alpine Club, which is a voluntary not-for-profit registered group.

Our programs follow Alpine Canada’s ” AIM-2-WIN” manual guidelines and utilize their National ” Husky Snow Stars Skills” training program which takes young ski athletes through a progression of achievement skills from year to year in a safe and fun-filled format.

Athletes will learn and improve their skiing skills and at the same time learn how to race in a team environment.   All our programs are staffed with certified ski coaches.

Nancy Greene Ski League:  Ages 5-10 yrs.

Races/Training Progam on Saturdays 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

This is Alpine Canada’s entry level program designed to teach the FUNdamentals of ski racing in a fun-orientated team format using the Husky Stars Skills program.

Irwin Ski League :  Ages 11- 18 yrs.

 Races/Training on Saturdays 10:00 am- 3:00 pm

This recreational racing program is designed to continue refining the skills of the athletes and carries them into adulthood in a relaxed team format.  Previous race experience is not required.

Athletes train in grops of 6 to 8 based on age and ability.  Various race events are held during the season plus Christmas and Spring camps.  Additional training is available on Thursday nights ( extra cost applies).

These programs are designed to teach young athletes to improve their basic skills in order to RACE and should not be confused with a regular “learn to ski” program.   The child must be able to go on all chairlifts unaided  and be able to ski & stop in control.  They will need their own equipment ( which can be rented from the local ski sh0ps if necessary)  and a lift pass at Loch Lomond Ski Area (season membership or daily lift pass) as  the program registration fees cover the coaching and insurance costs only.  Families are expected to participate in the various fundraising events we hold to help offset costs of programs, equipment, etc.  Volunteers from the parents are also needed to help out on race days ( timing, starting, gatekeeping, etc.)

SAFETY HELMETS:  an Alpine Ski Racing  Helmet is mandatory.
